The time has finally come to begin with the pilot-project. What I´m going to do is not to work directly with acoustic, but try to work just with form and its materials. Without a certain space to work on I want to immerse myself into how to develop shapes from sounds in a different perspective.

I´m also in person representred in the magazine, but as a “model” for Christoffer Angells “Pauline”, playing on my Gibson Les Paul guitar in the background.

An interesting solution for the Univerity of Sheffield´s state-of-the-art music practice and studio facility. In how they use the material in a different way by putting the soundproof black rubber in the facade and not in the interior. The overall aesthetic of the black rubber quilt is intended as a literal translation of the need to acoustically contain the building’s use, making the building soundproof.

Barry Loyd Wright.
Mr. Wright said & believed that architecture is the edifice of sound. Much like how a good designer incorporates plotting, scheming, planning, etc. into things, so does a musical composer. Just like the music from Mozart or Beethoven, which has a beginning, a middle and an end, so too should good architecture. Just like a good song, at one point or various points, the building should have a climax. It should possess some sort of positive psychological climatic feel & approach not only within it’s interior, but exterior as well. Like all the thoughts & feelings one gets when walking into the Guggenheim Museum or Fallingwater for example. Architecture should flow harmoniously with an interpersonal & interrelationship of spacious proportions, play of height, play of light, play of textures, fixtures and so on and so forth. All things within a building should have a personal relationship & harmonic flow so much so that it all goes & comes together being complimentary to each other & is in tune much like good music. A grand meshing if you will. If a building can achieve this, then it’s organic in nature & is pure in organic form, and if a building cannot do this, then one can separate the good from the bad. A building should be a grace to the ground & not a disgrace. Therefore, good architecture should be like good music and they should be arranged, created & composed in much the same way. Therefore, architecture is music & a good architect is a musician or at least acts & behaves in pretty much the same way.

The new textile from Studio Aleksandra Gaca.
Three-dimensional high-tech acoustic textile which can be used as wall covering, dividing screen or autonomous interior object. The basic material is wool which is combined with other materials such as metals. The fabrics are made with a patented weaving technology to create an extreme three-dimensional effect. They are decorative with high acoustic performance, and most fabrics are two-sided. The contrast of the different materials emphasizes the difference between high-tech and natural, technical and handicraft.

They say that the acoustic in the new operahouse in Oslo is fantastic. I really look forward to join them in their meanings. Hopefully to watch a show sometime soon. Snøhetta has done a great job, shapeing our national music hall. And for me the operahouse stands as a major inspiration in architecture as well as the acoustic setting.
Optimum acoustics have been achieved by the following methods in the operahouse. A little guide in how they proceed their acoustic design and use of materials.
• It has an aesthetic move, given the balcony fronts a geometry which changes relative to its location in the room and the acoustic function necessary in each location. At the sides the form reflects sound back down to the audience whilst at the rear it sends soungs in multiple direction to avoid focussing.
• The oval ceiling reflector visually finishes the hall and also reflects sounds in very specific ways. The same principle is used as with the balcony fronts.
• The rear walls at each level are made up of convex panels to avoid focussing and to spread sound evenly through the room.
• The geometri of the interlying walls, main orchestra reflector, and the mobile towers are modulated to scatter sound around the space. Using timber staves of varying dimensions to modulate sound of different wavelengths.
• All the surfaces are of relatively dense materials to avoid high frequency vibrations. Balcony fronts are 50mm solid oak where the rear wall panels are 100mm MDF with oak veneer.

There is no reason why people should not go to Høstutstillingen 08. Its quite cool. A mix of paintings, drawings, photos, sculptures and consept arts witch I don´t understand and hate. Probably the reason why I hate it. Anyway, here are some pixs from the exhibition.

There is a reason why we designers and musicians always try to reach for the top. Its all about hard work, and the hot prize that follows…
